I am looking forward to hearing about Warriors Day so much! I will certainly there in spirit. I’m sure it’s going to be great fun.
Even if you can’t be in Arkansas to help raise money for the Brightspirit Relief Fund, there are plenty of ways to help your family, friends and community – the Clan you belong to.
Clan cats take care of their elders. The apprentices and warriors keep their elders’ dens clean, bring them food and keep them company. Is there an elder living alone on your street or in your community who could use some help with their gardening or shopping or would just enjoy a little company? Of course, don’t do this alone – be sure to read Vicky’s advice about staying safe and being careful about placing your paws on another cat’s territory – but you can encourage your whole family – parents and brothers and sisters – to “adopt” an elder and take care of them as though they were part of your own Clan.
Warriors don’t eat junk food. Give up junk food for a week and donate the money you don’t spend on sweets or buns or fries to a good cause. Get your school involved by going around to other classes and explaining where their money will go. Place large containers in each classroom in which students can place their change.
Cheer up your Clanmates with balloons. If one of your Clanmates is feeling down or poorly, why not cheer them up with a balloon-a-gram? Basically, a balloon-o-gram is a telegram with balloons. Take a bunch of balloons to their door and when they answer the bell, sing them a happy song!
Raise money using photos of your pets. Persuade a local store or your library to put up a display board where you can stick a photo of your pet. Add a few sentences about what makes them special. Make sure each photo is numbered. Then put numbered jars around the bottom of the display and people can vote using coins or dollar bills. The picture with the most “votes” (the most money collected) wins a prize!
When an apprentice becomes a warrior, they promise to uphold the warrior code and protect their Clan. You can make promises to help your Clan too. You could write down promises and give them to friends or family – like promising to walk the dog for a week, or to do the dishes or help your grandparents set up their email. Or just promise to always be ready to listen when a Clanmate needs someone to talk to.
Always remember how Clan cats take care of each other. That is what makes them true warriors.
StarClan be with you.
Love to all
Kate
